Krell Industries Releases First Blu-Ray Player
January 6, 2010 By Liz Palacios
Krell, has introduced their very first Blu-Ray player at CES, which will ship later in the 2nd quarter of this year.
The Evolution 555 is a Profile 2.0 Ready (BD Live) Blu-Ray/DVD player with 1GB of onboard memory. It features an SD card slot for expanded memory (for BD Live, Bonus View movie titles, and playback options for photo and music files), and the 12-bit Sigma Design VXP technology, which is an engine that delivers high-quality video processing algorithms for noise reduction, de-interlacing, scaling, image enhancement and frame rate conversion.
The Evolution 555 includes an aspect ratio control that features a vertical stretch option for systems using 2:35:1 Contrast Image Height display systems. This gets rid of those black bars on the top and bottom of the screen without distorting the image or artifacts.
Krell’s Blu-Ray player also has an onboard Ethernet port and slot for wireless cards/ Internet connectivity. This allows for firmware updates, BD Live interactivity and IP control. Being connected to a network is also useful for streaming online, or gathering media files from a home network.
Dual HDMI outputs are included with the option of full audio and video output to two systems. Another option is to dedicate one HDMI for audio, and the second for video, which helps with “jitter” reduction for the signal paths. Also, though the Evolution 555 is HDMI 1.3 compliant, it comes ready for upgrading to HDMI 1.4 with full support for 3D. The Evolution 555 runs at a suggested retail price of $15,000. krellonline.com
