LG SL90 Series LCD TVs
September 9, 2009 By Dennis Burger
It gets harder and harder every year to sit through new flat panel TV announcements. Ooo, this one's flatter. Ahh, that one's sleeker. Ohh, you could cut a tin can with the other one, but you wouldn't want to.
LG's unveiling of their new SL90 was actually worth staying awake for, though. Yeah, they're sleeker. Unlike most LCD TVs, the LCD panel itself isn't recessed within a frame; instead, SL90s sport a sharp looking single-layer design with a very narrow bezel, which not only improves the viewin experience, it also makes for a slicker looking set, even with the power off.
Let's face it, though: how many of us really sit around and look at our TVs when they're not on? To an ensure a prettier picture when you're actually watching it, LG has implemented a number of performance enhancements, including a special film lamination surface and -- the thing that really caught my attention -- an advanced Picture Wizard that doesn't quite quite compare with a full blown ISF calibration, but nonetheless blows the standard picture controls on most TVs out of the water.
The SL90 series will be available later this Fall in 47- and 42-inch models, for $2,599 and $2,099, respectively.
