High Resolution Music Storage
Music server manufacturer Olive has announced their newest, the 4HD.
In addition to the cool design found on their 4 server and 2 media player, the 4HD adds in the ability to store and play back 192kHz/24-bit audio.
All the info after the jump.
CDs are 44.1kHz/16-bit audio. This was pretty cutting edge for the time. That time being the late 70s/early 80s.
The ear can discern higher bit depth and higher sampling rate audio. Does 192 kHz/24-bit audio sound the order of magnitudes better that the numbers would suggest? No. But it is absolutely a vast improvement over CD. Certain companies are offering high-resolution downloads, such as Chesky Records , and in fact each 4HD ships with 12 tracks from Chesky pre-loaded.
The 2 terabyte storage space on the 4HD should be enough to hold all your CDs and plenty of HD audio. The digital files are converted using a proprietary DAC that features the 192khz/24-bit Burr-Brown PCM1792A.
The rest of the features are similar to the standard 4, which you can read about here.
